Mexican Burger

Spice up burger night with these Mexican burgers, flavorful south-of-the-border-inspired beef patties topped with a creamy avocado spread.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1-1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 cup shredded aged cheddar cheese
  • AVOCADO SPREAD:
  • 1 medium ripe avocado, peeled
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
  • 6 hamburger buns, split and toasted

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine bread crumbs, onion, cilantro, salt, pepper and cumin. Add beef and cheese; mix lightly but thoroughly. Shape into six 1/2-in.-thick patties. Cover and refrigerate 30 minutes.
  2. Grill burgers, covered, over medium heat until a thermometer reads 160°, 3-4 minutes on each side. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, mash avocado and lime juice. Stir in sour cream, garlic, salt and hot sauce. Serve burgers on buns topped with avocado mixture.
